Arrow Vane
Arrow Vane

A question for the archers?
My arrows went through the goal and now the blades are wavy, will this effect the arrows flight performance?
Its going to rip the Vains like crazy once you get more and more like an arrow robin hooding. But if you want to keep your arrows in silence, from which rolling Vains that is a little louder, you can easily replace the Vains and is not expensive to make.

In the early '80s, the bow manufacturers were creating much faster compound bows, which changed the type of broadheads to use. The earlier compound bow with speeds of about 200 feet per second (fps) would handle the large cutting diameter and heavy tips of about 125 grains or more. In other words, the arrow would level out or fly erratically. Today, with the fastest speeds of the compound bow (250 fps and up to about 340 frames per second) largest broadheads tend out airplane and fly off course and no way to correct the flight of the arrow. Trust me, I have tried just about everything to correct this problem. I liked the idea of having a cutting surface and a large hole that Broadhead made on impact.
Times have changed and so did I. Today I shoot a Broadhead is much more light and the cut surface is smaller in diameter. I have three broadheads I've been using for 15 years and this is 100 grains, Rocky Mountain, Muzzy and Clouds. The reason they have stuck with these marks are very simple, working for me. They have all crisp and center very well in my arrow.
How center themselves know my arrow? A simple and easy way to check this is to spin the arrow to place the item on a hard surface and holding the shaft between my fingers and thumbnail just below the arrow feathers and turning the blow on the fins or feathers. Looking at the axis of the shaft while turning, it will show if there is a pendulum or Broadhead off-center. To correct this problem, often all you have to do is turn the Broadhead about a quarter turn to make sure it is properly positioned in the shaft of the arrow. If this does not correct the problem, replace with another Broadhead. If this is not correct, then you may have to put the screw on the (female part) of the arrow. However, always make sure that the arrow turns some fingers. This will allow the real flying arrow. When this is done correctly, I never had an arrow false fly because of this problem.
Mechanical broadheads fly very true, but they have their draw backs in my opinion. When you open contact with a diameter large cutting large and long blades tend to break or fail on impact. This style of Broadhead is changing almost daily, and therefore not fully put out of my mind. But first they must prove to me that does not break or falter under severe testing. I mean shooting at a piece of ½ inch plywood. I've seen the tests and have given my opinion.
There are many different styles and brands of archery broadheads and points. Only a few of them are;
A) Small Game Points
B) Big Game Broadheads including Mechanical Broadhead
C) Broadhead Turkey Special
D) Points fish
E) Field Points
By choosing a different style or letter Broadhead, choose one that fits your need for choice. If you practice shooting, choose a point on the ground in the same amount of grain used for hunting. Or maybe they target shooting for competition and the need for a very slight increase in speed.
For small game you might want to consider using a blunt head judo point or arrowhead. These are facts that bring down the power and less likely to be lost in the bush or brush. For turkey hunting that make special mechanical broadheads are strong on impact and razor sharp for cutting after the impact.
Fish have many different styles of arrows and barbed points. Some of the tips of the screws, some are locked in place and are some mechanics. My personal choice is the mechanical style. They seem to have the fish very well and are easy to release.
Your options to use different styles of archery broadheads or points are totally up to you. I've given you some of my preferred options that have worked very well for me throughout my years of bow hunting. I'm not saying that these are the only choices to make, but these work for me. Happy hunting and shooting straight!
